83rd & Lexington Corridor Study

The City of De Soto, in collaboration with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), conducted a study to explore a range of improvements for transportation and accessibility along the 83rd and Lexington Avenue Corridor, extending from K-10 to the eastern limits of De Soto.

In November 2024, the consultant team presented their final recommendation to the City Council, unveiling a vision designed to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and the overall quality of life for De Soto residents.

Study Highlights

  • Smoother, Safer Streets: The study includes the addition of roundabouts at key intersections, designed to ease congestion and make daily commutes safer and more efficient for everyone.
  • Biking & Walking, Made Easy: The corridor will feature on-street bike lanes running its entire length, alongside a sidewalk on one side and a 10-foot pedestrian trail on the other, extending from Commerce to Carress Street to provide ample space for cyclists and pedestrians.
  • A Welcoming Community Connection: Thoughtful landscaping and enhanced access points will create a corridor that not only supports growth but also strengthens connections between neighborhoods.
