FAQs
Can I put my event on the City's calendar?
- The City Calendar is a go-to resource for discovering community-wide events that appeal to residents of all ages; we invite local organizations to share their events!
To ensure the calendar remains a useful and family-friendly tool, we follow these guidelines:
What We Look For in Events:
- Community-Wide Appeal: Your event should be open and accessible to everyone in the community.
- Family-Friendly: We expect all events to be suitable for families, being mindful of language and content.
- Non-Commercial Focus: The primary purpose of the events should not be the sale of goods or services or the promotion of a business. However, we welcome community-enhancing events like craft fairs, farmers' markets, and art shows that support local artisans and add cultural, educational, or recreational value.
Generally Approved Events:
- Cultural festivals and celebrations
- Community service and volunteer opportunities
- Public performances such as concerts, plays, and recitals
- Educational workshops and seminars for all ages
- Broad community events sponsored by city government
Events & Organizations Subject to Review or Possible Denial:
- Targeted or Specialized Events: Events that are primarily intended for specific groups, such as private meetings, internal club activities, or regular sporting events.
- Religious Events: Events hosted by religious organizations are eligible if they are secular in nature (e.g., community service events, charity fundraisers) and are open and welcoming to the entire community (like Easter egg hunts).
- Community Safety Concerns: Events should not incite divisiveness or conflict within the community. This includes assessing the potential impact on local resources like police and emergency services.
- Restricted Business Categories: Organizations whose business is substantially derived from the sale of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, or adult content.
All event submissions are reviewed by the City Communications Director to ensure they meet these standards.
